Addis Ababa, (AMECO) – Prime minister Dr Abiy Ahmed had an exclusive interview with AMECO and reflected on recent developments in Amhara region and beyond. Solving the problem of limited job creation and absent manufacturing hubs, the government has successfully launched multiple industrial parks and factories in the Amhara region.

Prior to recent reforms, cities in the region struggled to operate factories. Today, industrial parks have been erected in Bahir Dar, Debre Berhan, and Arerti. Major milestones include the completion of the Tana Beles sugar factory and Lemi Cement—now the largest cement factory in Ethiopia. Private investment has also flourished, resulting in extensive oil and ceramic factories across Kombolcha, Gondar, and Debre Berhan.

Detailing the industrial turnaround, the Prime Minister explained, “Regarding industry, before the reform, there was no Bahir Dar Industrial Park. We built it after the reform.” Reflecting on the scale of the solution, he concluded, “It cannot be compared to where we were; it is exponentially greater.”
