Addis Ababa (AMECO) — Ethiopia has officially launched Faydaverese, a new state-owned enterprise established under Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH) to advance national digital sovereignty and drive economic growth, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh announced.
The state venture expands upon the country’s flagship National Digital ID Programme. According to official figures, the initiative has registered nearly 50 million citizens, delivered over 160 million identity verification services, and served as a foundational pillar for expanding financial inclusion across the nation.
Classifying digital identity alongside physical utilities, Temesgen emphasised that digital ID represents strategic national infrastructure vital to Ethiopia’s long-term competitiveness—on par with roads, electricity, and telecommunications.
Under the government’s broader Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy, the new enterprise is intended to position the country as a leader in Africa’s digital transition by sharing technical expertise, capacity, and operational models across the region and the wider continent.
Addressing public implementation, Temesgen noted that the success of the digital transformation will be measured by public adoption and improvements to citizens’ daily lives rather than technical metrics alone. He pledged that the government would maintain strict technology quality standards, ensure robust data security, and actively work to raise digital literacy.
