Addis Ababa (AMECO) — The transformation of AMECO English into AMECO Africa marks a significant new chapter in the media organization’s journalistic journey, as it prepares to expand its coverage and reach audiences across the African continent and beyond.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Russian Ambassador to Ethiopia, H.E. Evgeny Terekhin, expressed confidence in the new platform and commended AMECO’s efforts to strengthen its role in African journalism.

The Ambassador described AMECO Africa’s motto, “Africa Speaks, the World Listens,” as both inspiring and a significant responsibility for journalists tasked with presenting African stories to global audiences.

Reflecting on the history of international reporting on Africa, Ambassador Terekhin noted that the continent has often been portrayed through perspectives shaped outside Africa. He emphasized the growing importance of objective and professional reporting that allows Africans to present their own realities, achievements and challenges to the world. He highlighted the need for quality journalism covering Africa’s politics, economy, technology, culture and development, and expressed confidence that AMECO’s journalistic experience and professionalism will enable AMECO Africa to deliver impactful content to continental and international audiences.“It is time for Africans to present their own continent and reality to the world,” the Ambassador said, while extending his best wishes to the AMECO Africa team as it embarks on its expanded mission.

The launch also carries a symbolic significance, coming around the celebration of Ethiopian New Year, Enkutatash.  Terekhin described the timing as an appropriate moment for a new beginning and a major step in the organization’s journalistic evolution.
He extended his New Year wishes to AMECO Africa’s journalists, editorial team and audiences, expressing optimism about the platform’s future.

As AMECO English evolves into AMECO Africa, the platform aims to broaden its continental coverage and create greater space for African voices, stories and perspectives—connecting the continent with the world.
