Addis Ababa (AMECO) – In the Ethiopian calendar, the 13th month of Pagume—a short intercalary period of five or six days—serves as a transitional bridge to the New Year. In recent years, each day of Pagume has been assigned a national theme, with the third day officially designated as “Resilience Day.”
In Dessie, a strategic city in the Amhara region, the municipality’s security administration marked the occasion with a series of commemorative events highlighting local and national endurance.
Speaking to Amhara Media Corporation (AMECO), security personnel in attendance pledged to remain steadfast in overcoming hardships, stating that their primary mission remains stabilizing the region and safeguarding the country from ongoing security challenges.
Personnel noted that Ethiopia has successfully repelled coordinated internal and external threats through the vanguard role of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) alongside joint security organs. They emphasized that observing “Resilience Day” provides renewed morale and prepares forces for high-stakes operational duties in the year ahead.
Commander Seyid Ali, head of the Dessie City Peace and Security Department, affirmed that local security forces are working around the clock to guarantee safety across the city and its surrounding areas.
Describing the security structure as the ultimate guarantor of state continuity and national sovereignty, Commander Seyid stressed that local law enforcement remains committed to protecting public safety, while appealing to the community to maintain its vital grassroots cooperation.
Reinforcing this message, Samuel Molalign, First Deputy Mayor of Dessie, lauded the security apparatus as a “national shield” that thwarted the ambitions of armed groups attempting to destabilize the state.
Molalign noted that the sacrifices made by security forces have established a dependable foundation of peace in Dessie, enabling essential municipal development projects and economic activities to proceed uninterrupted.
