Addis Ababa (AMECO) – Safaricom is expanding its telecommunications network and social investment programmes across Ethiopia’s Amhara region, backed by commitments from local authorities to help resolve ongoing operational challenges.
The regional government reaffirmed its support following high-level talks in Bahir Dar between Amhara Regional Chief Administrator Arega Kebede and senior executives from the telecommunications operator. Discussions focused on accelerating network coverage, expanding digital technology, and deepening corporate social responsibility projects across the region.
Addressing the executive team, the regional president commended Safaricom’s role in modernising the regional communications sector and called for sustained momentum in technology development. He assured the delegation that the regional administration is actively working to mitigate operational difficulties facing the firm on the ground.
Alongside network development, Safaricom has delivered concrete community aid initiatives in the regional capital, Bahir Dar. The company provided essential educational supplies to local students and donated vocational training machinery to Bahir Dar Polytechnic College to support youth skill development.
Andualem Admasse, Safaricom’s head of external relations, highlighted the company’s substantial investment footprint across Amhara and reaffirmed its commitment to social development. He acknowledged the regional government’s continued assistance in facilitating operations.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Bahir Dar’s First Deputy Mayor, Goshu Endalamaw, welcomed the collaboration, emphasizing the broader social impact of public-private cooperation. “By working together, we can empower transformed citizens,” Endalamaw said, thanking the telecoms operator for its social investments.
