Addis Ababa (AMECO)– The highly anticipated Miss Shadey cultural pageant has officially commenced in the Wag Hemra Nationality Zone of Amhara Region, bringing together contestants from across the territory in a community-led effort to preserve indigenous heritage and revive regional tourism.
Taking place as part of the broader annual Shadey festival celebrations, the contest features participants representing two city administrations and seven woredas (districts). Contestants are presenting traditional Wag Hemra attire, traditional adornment, and regional customs to showcase the zone’s unique cultural identity.
Framed as a solution to promote local tourism and cultural preservation, the pageant extends beyond a conventional beauty contest. The winner will be appointed as Wag Hemra’s official cultural ambassador, charged with promoting the zone’s historical assets, eco-tourism potential, and cultural heritage to wider national and international audiences.
The event forms a central pillar of the ongoing Shadey festivities, an annual celebration marked by vibrant public performances, traditional music, and community showcases across the administration.
