Addis Ababa (AMECO)- The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission is preparing to unveil a comprehensive set of policy recommendations to parliament and the public, following the conclusion of landmark talks that brought together more than 4,000 delegates to forge solutions to long-standing national divisions.
Speaking at a news conference reviewing the 2018 Ethiopian fiscal year, Chief Commissioner Professor Mesfin Araya announced that the commission plans to present its finalized recommendations to outgoing members of the House of Peoples’ Representatives by 10 Meskerem (20 September), ahead of the parliamentary recess.
The plenary conference, conducted between 15 July and 22 August (8 Hamle to 16 Nehase 2018 EFY), provided a structured platform where delegates set aside political and regional differences to focus on core national priorities. Mesfin described the gathering as a “history-changing and hopeful” milestone, emphasizing that careful preparation and broad collaborator involvement had demonstrated the practical viability of dialogue over conflict.
In its remaining term, the commission will focus on ensuring full transparency by releasing the recommendations publicly, supporting government bodies during the implementation phase, and establishing permanent mechanisms to embed dialogue as a foundational element of Ethiopian political culture.
Extending New Year greetings to the nation, the chief commissioner called on individuals, civic institutions, and key stakeholders who contributed to the conference’s success to maintain their active engagement as the process shifts from deliberation to concrete policy implementation.
