Addis,Ababa (AMECO) – Ethiopia stands as an enduring emblem of African independence, having repelled repeated threats to its sovereignty across generations through the bravery and resilience of its people, the First Deputy Mayor of Bahir Dar declared as the city observed “Resilience Day.”
The commemorations took place on the third day of Pagume—the short, five- or six-day 13th month of the Ethiopian calendar that bridges the outgoing year and the new one. The event in the regional capital brought together municipal officials, members of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF), Federal Police officers, local security forces, militia personnel, and city residents.
Addressing the assembly, First Deputy Mayor Goshu Endalamaw stated that Ethiopia’s standing as a sovereign nation rests on the sacrifices and historic patriotism of its citizens. He remarked that despite attempts by internal and external forces to destabilize the country, the nation has remained steadfast “like a rock.”
He emphasized that observing Resilience Day represents an inter-generational passing of the torch, calling on citizens to strengthen national unity to navigate current trials. He affirmed that municipal development initiatives designed to transform Bahir Dar into a peaceful economic hub and international destination will proceed without interruption, urging the public to reject divisive politics in favor of civic solidarity.
Highlighting the crucial role of law enforcement, Commander Wallelign Bimrew, head of the Bahir Dar City Police Department, described the holiday as deeply meaningful for the security apparatus—offering personnel an occasion to renew their solemn oath to the nation and reflect on their operational duties.
Commander Wallelign noted that troops continue the legacy of their patriotic predecessors, enduring rugged mountain wilderness, severe cold, and harsh conditions in defense of the country. He concluded by calling for sustained, close collaboration between the public and security institutions to guarantee lasting peace and stability in the year ahead.
