Bahir Dar, (AMECO) — Regional authorities in Ethiopia’s Amhara region enrolled over 4.4 million students and treated more than 1.3 million malaria patients during the past fiscal year, regional chief Arega Kebede told the regional council.
Presenting his annual performance report to the council’s 12th regular session, Arega Kebede outlined developments across the region’s public health and education systems.
In education, regional authorities administered national and regional examinations for Grades 6, 8, and 12, with more than 59,000 Grade 12 candidates sitting exams online. Under the “Education for Generations” initiative, the region constructed 233 schools, bringing total student enrollment to 4,410,954.
In healthcare, maternal services reached 872,441 mothers for first-round antenatal care and over 789,000 for fourth-round care. Health workers also administered emergency respiratory support to 12,330 newborns suffering delivery complications.
Disease control and vaccination programmes were also scaled up, with 821,949 children receiving measles vaccines and 1,387,155 patients receiving malaria treatment.
