Tsedey Bank has concluded a three-day performance review for the 2025/26 fiscal year and launched its strategic orientation for 2026/27, with Amhara regional president Arega Kebede praising the lender as a resilient, community-focused institution.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Arega Kebede presented a vehicle award to the bank’s founder and former president, Mekonnen Yelewumwossen, in recognition of his 30 years of leadership. Kebede highlighted Yelewumwossen’s role in steering the organisation through a complex transformation from a microfinance institution into a full-fledged commercial bank.
The regional president also presented awards to high-performing staff members and branch offices, noting that such recognition fosters employee motivation and drives productivity across the workforce.
The event, held from 26 to 28 Hamle 2018 Ethiopian calendar [1 to 3 August 2026], served as a critical forum to align the bank’s upcoming operations. Addressing attendees, current bank president Dr Yohannes Ayalew urged employees to maintain momentum toward the institution’s long-term goal of becoming one of Africa’s top 40 banks by 2040.
Despite an unpredictable economic climate globally and domestically, the bank reported strong performance over the past fiscal year. Key achievements included gains in deposit mobilisation, loan disbursement and recovery, foreign exchange reserve accumulation, and liquidity management.
Bank management attributed the turnaround to a new leadership direction and a three-pillar institutional strategic reform plan executed over the past five months. Officials confirmed that Tsedey Bank has finalised operational preparations for the coming fiscal year, focusing on expanding deposits, securing foreign currency, and enhancing overall service delivery.
