Bahir Dar, 6 August, 2021 (AMC) -The terrorist group has been gambling against the national interest of Ethiopia since its inception. TPLF has plundered Ethiopia and oppressed its people during its rule.
After centuries of tyranny, TPLF has been swept away from power through a popular public opposition. TPLF is now trying to create a failed Ethiopia.
Though the government is committed to the unilateral ceasefire, some countries and international organizations are reluctant to accept it.
There is an indication for a presence of some sort of conspiracy when international agencies that are supposed to be impartial and fair are seen to have officially supported TPLF’s false propaganda.
According to Hasabu Desta, Debre Berhan University political science lecturer, the idea is trying to put pressure on Ethiopia through propaganda. In particular, they are communicating and disseminating a coordinated and concocted information they receive from the terrorist groups, he added.
He also said that instead of maintaining lasting peace, it is aimed at prolonging the existence of the terrorists TPLF and protecting their own interests. He said this has created unfair pressure on the country. Hasabu said the Ethiopian government should reverse the trend by explaining the truth.
He said as Addis Ababa is the third diplomatic city after Brussels and New York, this can be done by explaining to the ambassadors in the country without having to deploy a diplomats.
“Ethiopia is not only surrounded by enemies. It also has many friendly countries. This is evidenced by the significant role played by friendly countries in rejecting the Security Council resolutions, ” Hasabu added.
Strong and ardent diplomatic work should be an important task for the Ethiopian government, he said, adding that the pressure can be reduced by increasing the number of friendly countries.
“It is well known that Ethiopia has a duty to create a conducive environment for the provision of humanitarian assistance to the victims .This does not mean that donors will do what they want. Although not accepted, some Westerners and their institutions have recently requested for the opening of a way through Wolkait Tegede in order to provide humanitarian assistance to the Tigray region,” Hasabu said. He also said that this should not be compromised as it violates the inalienable sovereignty of the country.
“In the first place it is not appropriate to ask another question without providing sufficient assistance. On the other hand as the port of Assab is close to Eritrea, it is necessary to consider the need to open up a route via Sudan, Hasabu said. He also said that the terrorist group’s intention, as it has always ben in the past, is to import weapons and sell the aid.
He said Ethiopia is embroiled in a diplomatic standoff with Sudan over border disputes and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. In this regard, he noted that Ethiopia has a sovereign right not only to suspend any aid via the Sudan border but also to temporarily suspend all activities. He said the Ethiopian government should take a firm stand on the issue.
