The Amhara Regional State is expediting humanitarian aid; not obstructing it.
Bahir Dar, 12, JUL, 2021 (AMC) – The Amhara Regional State in a statement said, the defamatory report by some foreign media and activists that the Amhara State Government is obstructing humanitarian access to the Tigray region is untrue and a total fabrication.
The statement said the regional government has the responsibility of ensuring the authenticity of any aid and that is really the right thing that a sovereign state has to do.
“Therefore, the regional government is working only to ensure that any aid and commodity that passes through Amhara region is inspected at checkpoints to make sure that it is a legal and authorized humanitarian aid,” the regional government said.
The statement said the regional government has the duty to ban materials that are not authorized and declared illegal.
The government said the regional state will not tolerate any act made in the pretext of ‘humanitarian aid” which poses a threat to the safety of its citizens.
The statement said, the accusation that the Amhara regional government is obstructing humanitarian aid from reaching to those in need in Tigray is simply a pretext intended to bring back the terrorist TPLF to power.
The statement said checkpoints have always been operating the way they are now and will continue to be so.
The statement said the regional state of Amhara will not be agitated and never fall pray to the fake news and agenda of the unjust media report, conspirators and accomplices of TPLF.
“There is no country in the world that any activity and commodity moves unchecked, let alone imported. After all, if ” these donors” are real philanthropists and are really sending humanitarian aid, they have to accept inspections as they always do this in their country.
The statement said security checkpoints will be strengthened to safeguard the region and the people against conspirators.
“We will cooperate with, support and safeguard legitimate trades and activities who come to and pass through the region.
On the contrary, the government has a duty to protect the people by preventing unauthorized, harmful and sneaky interest and activities that jeopardizes the people of Amhara, the Amhara Regional State stressed.
