Addis Ababa (AMECO)- Hidassie Zemenu, who achieved the highest score among female students nationwide in Ethiopia’s Grade 12 national leaving examination, has been presented with official awards and public recognition in the country’s north-western Amhara region.
Hidassie, a student at Agew Midir Comprehensive Secondary School in Injibara, scored 583 points in the national exams. She was awarded a laptop and a modern smartphone during a ceremony jointly organised by the Awi Zone Council and the Injibara Town Administration.
As part of the celebrations, Agew Midir Secondary School was awarded 100,000 Ethiopian Birr to support its educational work. Hidassie’s parents and her school’s headteacher were also formally commended for their roles in supporting her academic journey.
Destaw Alemu, head of the Awi Zone Education Department, said Hidassie’s result was not an overnight success but the product of years of diligence, patience, and commitment. He added that her performance would inspire other students and foster a “can-do” attitude across schools in the region.
Tewodros Endalew, Chief Administrator of the Awi Zone, highlighted that her achievement reflected a collective effort between the student, her teachers, her family, and the wider community. He pledged that the zone administration would provide all necessary assistance to help Hidassie fulfil her ambition of building a career in the technology sector.
Expressing her gratitude during the ceremony, Hidassie said the awards and community support would motivate her to strive for even greater achievements in her future studies.
