Relations between Oman and Ethiopia Witnessing Swift Progress: Omani Ambassador

Addis Ababa ( AMECO) Relations between Ethiopia and Oman are witnessing rapid progress across various sectors, particularly at the political and economic levels, Ambassador Afkar Bin Nazem, Oman Head of Mission to Ethiopia, told ENA.

The Ambassador said the longstanding and solid ties between the countries are currently gaining strong momentum thanks to the commitment of the leaderships of both nations. Ethiopia and Oman have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations earlier this year, he revealed, adding that subsequent to that was held the first round of bilateral political consultations.

That was a step which broadened the scope of cooperation and coordination between the two sides, the Ambassador said. According to him, “relations between Oman and Ethiopia are experiencing remarkable progress, reflecting the shared determination of both countries to elevate bilateral cooperation to broader levels.”This positive development has also been reflected in the volume of bilateral trade, with Oman importing coffee, sesame, and livestock, while exporting construction materials, including iron and plastic products, to Ethiopia.

Ambassador Bin Nazem added that economic relations between the two countries are well positioned for further growth, given the available investment opportunities and the mutual desire to expand trade cooperation.He also praised Ethiopia’s rapid progress across various sectors since he assumed diplomatic duties in Addis Ababa about a year ago.

The Ambassador said that visitors from Oman have expressed admiration for Ethiopia’s development achievements, emphasizing that this is expected to encourage more Omani tourists to visit the country.“The rapid development and progress taking place in Ethiopia reflect the country’s vast potential and enhance the interest of Omani visitors in discovering its rich tourism and investment opportunities.”

The two countries are working to expand cooperation in investment, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges, alongside strengthening official and commercial visits, according to Ambassador Bin Nazem.Concluding his remarks, he reaffirmed Oman’s aspiration to further strengthen its relations with Ethiopia in a manner that serves the shared interests of both countries and their peoples.
