Addis Ababa ( AMECO)- Expanding cooperation in agriculture, technology, and cybersecurity between Ethiopia and Israel reflects a growing partnership bolstered by recent macroeconomic reforms in Addis Ababa, Israel’s ambassador has said.
Speaking to the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA), Ambassador Avraham Neguise said deep historical ties between the two nations have evolved into a modern bilateral partnership encompassing government cooperation, capacity building, and commercial investment.
The ambassador highlighted Ethiopia’s ongoing macroeconomic and legal reforms as key drivers creating a more favourable environment for foreign capital, particularly across agriculture, mining, and technology.
In Bishoftu, Israeli agricultural investments are already producing fruits and vegetables, contributing to Ethiopia’s expanding export trade in produce such as avocados to markets in Europe and China. Neguise added that economic liberalisation is also encouraging further Israeli engagement in the mining sector, including gold exploration.
Beyond commerce, bilateral ties are expanding into public health and digital infrastructure. Israeli medical professionals are conducting training workshops and educational seminars with Ethiopian healthcare workers, with a focus on transferring service delivery technologies.
As Ethiopia advances its national digitalisation strategy, Israel is also sharing operational expertise to address emerging cybersecurity risks.
Emerging areas of cooperation include renewable energy, crime prevention initiatives with the Ethiopian Federal Police, and startup ecosystem development alongside Ethiopian Investment Holdings. A memorandum of understanding on water management, focused on technological monitoring and irrigation development, has also been established.
