Addis Ababa, (AMECO)- Ethio Telecom has mobilised more than 3,500 employees to plant 250,000 seedlings, joining Ethiopia’s national initiative to plant 800m trees in a single day.
The state-owned telecommunications company launched its participation in the eighth round of the country’s Green Legacy Initiative in the Gulele sub-city, with senior executives and external partners attending the opening ceremony.
Chief executive Frehiwot Tamiru told attendees that environmental protection was a “shared responsibility”, adding that the company’s involvement in seedling preparation and planting is expected to create around 2,000 job opportunities.
Tamiru described Ethio Telecom as a “green operator”, stating that the firm is integrating environmental sustainability into its core operations alongside national climate mitigation efforts.The campaign is taking place simultaneously across 18 regions.
The drive forms part of Ethiopia’s broader reforestation project, which aims to reverse land degradation, build climate resilience, and support socio-economic development across the country.
