‘A historic opportunity’: Ethiopia commissioner urges unity as national dialogue enters second week

Addis Ababa, (AMECO)— As the Ethiopian National Dialogue Conference enters its second week of deliberations at the Addis International Convention Center, Commissioner Yonas Adaye has praised the event’s progress, highlighting active delegate engagement and reaffirming the commission’s open-door policy.

Speaking exclusively to Amhara Media Corporation on the sidelines of the conference, Yonas described the dialogue as a historic undertaking and a major opportunity for the country. He expressed satisfaction with the proceedings so far, arguing that the discussions are laying a solid foundation for national consensus and sustainable peace.

‘The dialogue represents a homegrown path—an example of African solutions to African problems,’ Yonas said.

He highlighted the initiative as a promising mechanism to address Ethiopia’s deep-rooted conflicts and longstanding grievances, paving the way for inclusive governance and lasting development.

Addressing political groups and individuals who remain on the sidelines, Yonas stressed that the commission is still open to accommodating anyone interested in joining the process, even at this stage.

He urged the public to remain optimistic and called on all Ethiopians—including parties that have previously opted out—to participate in the effort. The conference is scheduled to continue over the coming weeks as delegates work to find common ground on critical issues shaping the country’s future.
