This enduring foundation of Ethiopian identity (Ethiopianness) has persisted since ancient times, forming an unshakeable bond that serves as the foundation for the nation’s freedom and heroism.
Whenever foreign invaders have brandished arms and advanced with promises of victory, they have been turned back in disgrace by a defense shielded by the blood, bones, and unified strength of the Ethiopian people. Historical invasion attempts—including those by Mahdist forces (Derbush) as well as repeated military campaigns by Egypt—were consistently repelled and humbled by Ethiopia’s strong arm.
