Addis Ababa— Participants at Ethiopia’s ongoing National Dialogue have praised the initiative as an inclusive and fair process, hailing it as a vital opportunity to address deep-seated historical grievances and build a foundation for long-term stability.

The ambitious process, designed to forge broad national consensus across the country’s diverse political and ethnic landscapes, brings together community leaders, regional officials, and civil society delegates ranging from the grass roots to the federal level.

Speaking to Gazette Plus, Umed Ujulu, former Chief Administrator of the Gambela Region, said the forum offered a crucial mechanism for steering the country through its current challenges toward a shared vision.

“The dialogue process is an inclusive platform where all segments of society, from regional to federal levels, have participated and made their voices heard,” Umed said, stressing that establishing a culture of peaceful consultation remains fundamental to democratic governance and state-building.

Delegates from the country’s eastern regions echoed those sentiments, pointing to the talks as a rare space to bridge regional divides and strengthen national cohesion.

Sultan Mohamed, a representative from the Somali Region, voiced optimism that bringing together perspectives from across Ethiopia would yield practical solutions for peace and economic development.

Meanwhile, Roble Habib, a delegate from the Afar Region, highlighted the role of traditional elders working alongside civic representatives to resolve long-standing disputes. He expressed confidence that the process would build a lasting consensus capable of guaranteeing stability for future generations.

The National Dialogue Commission is expected to continue its regional consultative sessions in the coming months as part of broader constitutional and democratic reform efforts.
