ADDIS ABABA, November 4, 2026 – The African Union (AU) has opened a Continental Forum in Addis Ababa to mark 20 years of its Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development (PCRD) Policy, bringing together officials and participants to assess progress and chart priorities for sustaining peace across the continent.
The forum is part of the sixth edition of AU PCRD Month, observed from November 1 to 30 under the theme “Twenty Years of Building and Sustaining Peace: From Policy to Action.” The month marks two decades since the policy was adopted in 2006.
Discussions are centered on translating policy commitments into practical results, strengthening institutions and ensuring sustainable reconstruction in countries emerging from conflict. The programme also aims to review achievements, share lessons and accelerate implementation of the revised policy.
Participants are also examining Quick Impact Projects, stressing that immediate interventions must be backed by long-term funding, maintenance and monitoring to deliver lasting benefits to affected communities.
The month-long commemoration will also include a Peace and Security Council meeting, a photo exhibition showcasing 20 years of achievements, the launch of the third edition of the AU Journal on Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development, and a dialogue on youth leadership in peacebuilding.
The AU says the activities are intended to renew continental commitment to sustainable peace, recovery and development by turning policy commitments into tangible action.L
