Addis Ababa, (November 3, 2026) – Amhara Regional President Arega Kebede says the region’s 2019 E.C. government performance review is a test of institutions’ capacity to deliver and of the effectiveness of the leaders who head them.

Speaking at the review forum, which is under way, the President said the exercise will weigh the strengths and shortcomings seen during implementation and set directions for the period ahead. “Our performance is evaluated against our strategic goals,” he said, urging leaders to work in line with those objectives. He said the regional government measures performance against its long-term plan, which was drawn up with both challenges and opportunities in mind.

The President noted that the Amhara Regional Government has set a 25-year plan for transformative growth and sustainable development. Leaders, he said, must work with the goals and destinations they intend to reach over that period in mind. They must also raise productivity and speed up service delivery.

He called for farsightedness and for seeing work through to completion. Performance, he said, must be assessed in a way that lets the region achieve its shared aspiration for change. “We must focus on our shared regional reality,” the President said, adding that the review must closely examine the region’s common strengths and common shortcomings. The aim, he said, is an assessment that reinforces and sustains strengths while correcting shortcomings, and that supports successful work in the coming months.
