Addis Ababa ( AMECO) The 70th general conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency is under way in Vienna, bringing together 181 member states including Ethiopia, the Ethiopian News Agency reported.

Delegates at the annual summit are addressing nuclear safety, security and the expanding peaceful applications of nuclear science across healthcare, agriculture and energy sectors.

As the IAEA’s primary policymaking body, the forum evaluates agency operations, establishes global research priorities and addresses emerging development needs.

Since the agency was established in 1957, the conference has guided international cooperation in nuclear technology, supporting applications ranging from cancer treatment and food security to water management and non-proliferation safeguards.

Decisions and resolutions adopted during the session will determine the agency’s programme of work for the coming year.
