Addis Ababa (AMECO) – City authorities in Bahir Dar have launched an urban development strategy aimed at sustaining local economic growth, citing improved public security, corridor development, and targeted youth employment as central drivers of the city’s recovery.

The plan, presented during a joint government and party review evaluating performance in the 2018 Ethiopian fiscal year, establishes stability and public trust as the foundation for future infrastructure and industrial projects.

Addressing the forum held under the motto “Visionary foresight, excellence in execution”, senior deputy mayor Goshu Endalamaw said stabilization efforts over the past year enabled unprecedented progress across multiple sectors.

“Securing peace in Bahir Dar has been our critical success during the fiscal year,” Goshu said, noting that progress extended to city corridor development, industry, youth job creation, livestock development, social services, and tourism. “An irreversible economic transition is underway, which has fostered closer collaboration between local government and the public.”

Molla Hussein, head of the local Prosperity Party branch office, said public recognition of municipal improvements reflected direct solutions to long-standing community concerns. He added that conducting local political activities peacefully during the year marked a significant benchmark for civic stability.

Looking ahead to the 2019 Ethiopian fiscal year, municipal leaders affirmed that priority will be given to tackling lingering administrative and infrastructural bottlenecks while scaling up support for manufacturing, service delivery, and the region’s tourist economy.
