Gondar’s “Mesob” One-Stop Service Center Connects History with Modern Public Services
The historic city of Gondar has completed the construction of its “Mesob” One-Stop Service Center, a facility designed to address challenges in public service delivery and enable residents to access multiple government services under one roof.
Residents of Gondar, Adugna Eshetie and Getaneh Asires, told AMECO that the center is expected to reduce the difficulties and inconvenience people have traditionally faced when seeking public services.
The center was built near the historic Fasil Ghebbi Royal Enclosure and under the famous Jantekel Warka tree. Residents said this location allows the community to access efficient public services while also being surrounded by important historical heritage. They described the center as a unique project that connects history with modern service delivery.
According to the residents, the technology-supported center is expected to reduce bureaucratic inefficiencies and malpractice while providing faster and more efficient services.
They also expressed hope that once the center becomes fully operational, it will provide significant relief to the public. They believe Mesob One-Stop Service Center will further support the momentum Gondar is currently experiencing through corridor development and heritage restoration.
Gondar City Administration Civil Service and Human Resource Development Department Head Netsanet Mengiste said construction of the city’s Mesob One-Stop Service Center has been completed and the facility has already begun providing services on a trial basis.
What Makes the Center Unique?
The center’s location near Fasil Ghebbi and beneath the Jantekel Warka tree provides visitors with an opportunity to access public services while also enjoying Gondar’s historic heritage, according to residents.
They also indicated that the center could contribute to revitalizing tourism in the city.
Because the center is supported by technology, it will help reduce document loss and inefficient practices while improving the overall quality and speed of service delivery.
Current Service Capacity
The center currently houses nine city administration institutions and three federal institutions, providing a total of 72 services.
Departments including Trade and Market Development, Revenues, and other government offices are currently providing services at the center.
During its trial operation, more than 1,000 members of the community have already received services at the facility, according to the city administration.
The center is designed to eliminate the inconvenience residents face when accessing public services and enable them to receive fast and quality services while saving time, money and effort. Work is also underway to digitalize institutions that have not yet adopted digital systems and integrate them into the center’s operations.
Construction of the Mesob One-Stop Service Center began in october 2025 G.C. The current facility was built after demolishing an existing building on the site and reconstructing it in a new form.
