Bahir Dar, (AMECO)— Regional authorities in Ethiopia’s Amhara region have recovered more than 1.2 billion Ethiopian birr lost to financial crime and reclaimed over 3.2 million square metres of state land, regional chief Arega Kebede told the regional council.
Presenting his annual performance report for the 2025–2026 fiscal year,Arega Kebede outlined measures to consolidate peace, reform the judiciary, and enforce law and order across the region.
The administration’s anti-corruption drive led to the recovery of 1.2bn birr (£7m) in embezzled funds across 87 criminal cases, alongside 3.2m square metres of misappropriated public land.
As part of wider integrity measures, authorities completed initial asset registrations for 4,593 public officials and individuals.
Arega Kebede also reported progress in law enforcement capacity, citing faster case handling, improved financial crime screening, and expanded forensic capabilities. Within the penal system, authorities delivered psychological support, education, and vocational training to prisoners.
To address regional security, the administration trained and deployed youth volunteers to local peace-building initiatives, while establishing community peace committees and public awareness campaigns.
