Bahir Dar,(AMECO) — Urban modernization projects, expanded infrastructure, and digitized public services have delivered tangible benefits to residents across Ethiopia’s Amhara region, regional chief Arega Kebede told the regional council.
Presenting an official performance report during an ongoing council session, Kebede outlined initiatives aimed at improving governance, expanding key infrastructure, and promoting environmental cleanliness.
The regional administration highlighted the completion of more than 214.9 kilometres of corridor development projects. A further 96 towns across the region were upgraded to municipal standards.
The regional chief also pointed to digital trade initiatives intended to modernize local markets, streamline business registration, and maintain the supply of essential consumer goods.
More than 626,000 commercial and market services were delivered online over the past fiscal year, reducing administrative delays for local citizens, according to the report.
“Through these targeted initiatives, we have been able to ease the burden on citizens seeking public services while strengthening market transparency,” Arega Kebede said.
The administration issued more than 101,000 new business registrations and granted over 140,000 trade licenses during the reporting period. The Chief added that regulatory oversight was scaled up alongside efforts to distribute basic commodities throughout regional markets.
