African Union Commends Ethiopia’s Commitment to Advancing Agenda 2063

Addis Ababa,(AMECO) — The African Union (AU) has commended Ethiopia for its strong commitment to advancing the goals of Agenda 2063, recognizing the country’s significant contributions across a broad range of development sectors that support Africa’s long-term vision for prosperity, peace, and integration.

Speaking on Ethiopia’s role in implementing the continental organization’s flagship development framework, the Head of the AU Commission’s Labour, Employment and Migration Division, Dr. Sabelo Mbokazi, said Ethiopia has consistently demonstrated a firm commitment to translating the aspirations of Agenda 2063 into practical action. He noted that the country’s efforts are evident across several strategic sectors essential to Africa’s sustainable development and transformation.

According to Dr. Mbokazi, Ethiopia’s progress extends beyond national priorities to advance the broader objectives of the African Union. He stated that the country’s work in promoting economic growth, strengthening regional cooperation, investing in human capital, and supporting continental integration reflects the core vision outlined in Agenda 2063: “The Africa We Want.”

He explained that Ethiopia continues to play a vital role in regional peace and stability initiatives, which remain fundamental to achieving sustainable development across the continent. Dr. Mbokazi also highlighted the country’s investments in education and skills development, describing them as critical steps toward building a competitive workforce capable of driving Africa’s future economic growth.

The AU official further emphasized Ethiopia’s contribution to expanding job opportunities through targeted policies designed to increase labor market participation and improve livelihoods. Additionally, he pointed to the nation’s growing focus on information and communication technology (ICT) and digital transformation as key drivers accelerating innovation, improving public service delivery, and bolstering economic competitiveness.

Dr. Mbokazi noted that these collective efforts foster a more resilient, inclusive, and prosperous continent while reinforcing cooperation among AU member states. Ethiopia’s experience, he added, demonstrates how sustained political commitment and coordinated development strategies can successfully advance the continental agenda.

However, achieving the full ambition of Agenda 2063 requires continued collaboration among African countries, development partners, and regional institutions. Strong partnerships, shared responsibility, and long-term commitment from all member states remain essential to accelerating progress toward the AU’s strategic objectives.

Adopted by the African Union, Agenda 2063 serves as the continent’s 50-year strategic framework for inclusive growth and sustainable development. The initiative aims to transform Africa into a prosperous, peaceful, integrated, and people-driven continent by promoting economic diversification, good governance, regional integration, industrialization, innovation, environmental sustainability, and improved living standards for all citizens.

The framework also places heavy emphasis on empowering youth and women, strengthening democratic institutions, promoting the free movement of people and goods, and enhancing Africa’s position as an influential global partner.

Dr. Mbokazi’s remarks reaffirm the African Union’s recognition of Ethiopia as a leading state actively supporting the realization of Agenda 2063, underscoring the critical importance of collective action in advancing Africa’s shared vision for present and future generations.
