Addis Ababa (AMECO)— Kasanchis is taking on a new identity with the opening of Addis Sport Park, a 5.7-hectare sports and recreation complex in the heart of Addis Ababa.
Inaugurated in April 2026, the park combines athletic facilities, green spaces, and community amenities into a major new destination for residents and visitors.
The development features an 800-meter professional running track, an Olympic-standard swimming pool alongside youth pools, and professional facilities for football, basketball, tennis, and handball. The complex also offers sand-based pitches alongside indoor and outdoor fitness and wellness facilities.
Beyond athletics, Addis Sport Park serves as a central gathering hub. Key amenities include a public plaza with a 3,000-person capacity, 105 retail shops, and a two-level underground parking facility accommodating over 300 vehicles.
The park also celebrates Ethiopia’s sporting heritage with 15 statues honoring the nation’s Olympic gold medalists.
For young people, the facility provides a safe environment to practice sports, build skills, and compete. Families and neighborhood residents can also use the space for daily recreation, exercise, and community events.
The transformation aligns with broader citywide efforts to expand accessible sports and recreational infrastructure across Addis Ababa.
Once an area with limited public recreational space, Kasanchis now anchors a premier sports hub designed to promote active living, nurture talent, and build community. Addis Sport Park is more than a athletic facility—it marks the evolving face of Kasanchis and introduces a major new landmark to the capital.
