Addis Ababa ( AMECO)- Tangible successes that have earned public trust have been achieved in the Amhara region over the past fiscal year despite multiple challenges, according to regional officials.

The assessment was made during a joint performance review for the 2018 Ethiopian fiscal year and an orientation forum for the 2019 fiscal year held by the region’s administrative cluster institutions.

Dr Amanuel Ferede, the administrative sector coordinator with the rank of deputy chief administrator, noted that while the region faced numerous hurdles, leaders successfully balanced development efforts with security operations. He stated that extremist forces within the region had allied with historical adversaries to disrupt public peace and development, but their ambitions were thwarted through a coordinated struggle involving the national defence forces, regional security structures, leadership, and the public.

Dr Eshetu Yinesu, head of the Amhara Region Peace and Security Bureau, highlighted that extensive efforts were made during the 2018 budget year to safeguard public peace and security, enforce the rule of law, and overcome complex security threats, resulting in significant achievements. Emphasising that peace is the foundation for all development and good governance, he urged the security apparatus to uphold professional ethics and public loyalty.

Looking ahead, Dr Amanuel stressed that the regional population expects reliable peace, security, justice, and trustworthy government services. He urged security and administrative institutions to operate in a coordinated and organised manner to ensure sustainable peace, the rule of law, and enhanced public accountability in the coming year.
