Addis Ababa (AMECO)- In a major transition timed with the Ethiopian New Year, AMECO English has officially  transformed into AMECO Africa, shifting to a fully digital-only media platform designed to elevate its coverage from regional reporting to a pan-African scope.

Speaking on the shift, former Ambassador Dina Mufti emphasized that digitalizing media is a timely and necessary evolution for Ethiopian news organizations. “The idea of digitalizing media is an idea whose time has come,” Dina noted, highlighting Ethiopia’s historic role in African liberation, continental unity, and economic growth.

Navigating Key Continental Agendas

Ambassador Dina Mufti outlined four major continental pillars that the newly transformed digital platform ‘AMECO Africa’ will focus on to foster integration and dialogue: Agenda 2063: Promoting the long-term vision for a prosperous and united continent.
African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA): Supporting trade integration and economic collaboration across member states.
Peace and Stability: Amplifying efforts toward regional security and peacebuilding.
African Solutions for African Problems: Championing local initiatives to address continent-wide challenges.

Strategic Advantage from the Heart of Africa

”Operating in Addis Ababa—the diplomatic capital hosting the African Union (AU) and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA)—gives AMECO Africa a distinct advantage,” Ambassador Dina noted. ”AMECO Africa will commit itself to leverage this position by engaging civil society, academic institutions, think tanks, and African elites to tell authentic, Pan-African stories.”

Fast, Inclusive, and Transparent Reporting

While acknowledging challenges such as cyber security, digital infrastructure access, and misinformation, Dina Mufti stressed that digital media’s speed, transparency, and reach far outweigh the obstacles. He noted that the new digital platform will complement traditional media outlets, offering faster delivery and broader accessibility.
”This will make African independence complete,” Dina stated, expressing optimism that AMECO Africa will serve as a vibrant, unifying voice for the continent.
