Opposition Parties Praise National Dialogue as Key to Resolving Political Fractures

Addis Ababa, (AMECO)— Opposition political parties participating in Ethiopia’s National Dialogue Conference have voiced strong support for the forum, stating that it establishes a vital framework for resolving deep-seated political rivalries through peaceful deliberation.

Delegates gathered in the capital to help shape the nation’s political future highlighted that the process marks a decisive departure from historically destructive methods of dispute resolution.

Key Concerns Included in the National Agenda

Tesfahun Alemneh, representing the Amhara Democratic Force Movement, revealed that core public grievances long championed by his party have been formally accepted onto the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission’s agenda.

He emphasized the broader historical importance of the proceedings:

  • Breaking the Cycle of Conflict: Acknowledging that past mechanisms for addressing political grievances proved ruinous, Tesfahun noted that the dialogue offers a crucial path out of perpetual war and instability.

  • A Legacy for Future Generations: Resolving disputes around a table rather than on the battlefield is essential to leaving behind a stable, peaceful nation.

Fostering a Culture of Negotiation

Yesuf Ibrahim, a delegate from the National Movement of Amhara, underscored that the conference creates a durable bridge between present and future generations.

“The ongoing effort to instill a civilized culture of addressing disagreements around the negotiating table is a crucial step forward,” Yesuf said, as reported by the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC).

Following the inclusive call issued by the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission, numerous political parties are actively participating in the deliberations, presenting their respective agenda items to help guide the nation’s transition.
