Bahir Dar, July 31, 2023 (AMECO) World Bank president Ajay Banga has begun his visit to Ethiopia.
Banga met with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Addis Ababa. The Premier in his social media page announced that the World Bank will be instrumental for Ethiopia’s economic growth.
“Pleased to receive World Bank President Ajay Banga today. The World Bank will be instrumental to our economic growth in expanding its scope of partnership with Ethiopia through increased concessional financing, robust investment financing through IFC and support for our homegrown economic reform agenda.”
According to the World Bank, this is the next step of a global tour. Identifying opportunities to create jobs for young people and women will be a focus of the trip.
Banga is expected to visit textile and shoe manufacturing facilities, malt production operations with ties to local farmers, and meet with women small business owners. Banga will convene meetings with CEOs and business leaders as part of a broader effort to increase private sector investment.
