The Ethiopian Red Cross Society provided ETB 14 Million worth support to the refugees in Metma, Amhara region.
Bahir Dar, July 26, 2023 (AMECO) Refugees from Sudan have been in Metema, Amhara region since the war erupted 100 days before. It has been reported that the crisis in the neighboring Sudan caused millions to flee.
The North Gondar Zone branch officer of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society, Atalel Tarekegn announced that ETB 14 Million worth of support has been provided to more than 4,000 refugees in Matema district, Amhara region.
Mr. Atalel mentioned that the support is not enough compared to the number of refuges, confirming that the association will continue to strengthen the humanitarian support.
According to Mr. Atalel the Ethiopian Red Cross Society, in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross has provided food and non-food items to the refugees in Metema accounts more than ETB 30 Million.
The refugees on their part stated that they are in a dire situation following the coming of the rainy season, and said the support from the Ethiopian Red Cross Society will ease the challenges.
The information from the West Gondar Zone Government Communication Department, more than 71,000 citizens of 74 nationalities have fled to Metema Yohannes since the war began in Sudan.
