The Core Identity Questions of the People of Amhara be codified by law – Council Members
Bahir Dar, July 21 2023 (AMECO) – Members of the Amhara Regional Council spoke out in the assembly, demanding that the ancient Amhara identity of the people of Wolkait, Tegede, Raya, and Telemet be acknowledged by law and that the government allocate budget and allow them to develop the resources they reclaimed after being liberated from the TPLF’s tyranny and oppression.
The council brought up the issue of addressing the legal issues of identity and economic benefits the people of Wolkait, Tegede, Raya, and Telemet receive as Ethiopians.
Chief administrator Yelkal Kefale (PhD), who addressed the council members, stated that the question of identity has been an expression of utter injustice for over forty years. He stated that the situation merits a lasting resolution.
He stated that providing an instant answer to the residents’ long-standing identify question is a question that cannot be put off for tomorrow.
“The primary task of the government and people of the Amhara region regarding the areas of Wolkait, Teggede, Raya, and Telemet is to explain the reality,” he said.
