Yelkal Kefale (PhD), Head of State, Urged Citizens to Use Social Media for Constructive Causes

Bahir Dar, June 26, 2023 (AMECO) – Head of the Amhara regional state, Yelkal Kefale (PhD), stressed in a message on his social media page that if social media is not used responsibly and in a civilized manner, it will trigger the worst social and economic disaster in history.

“The number of citizens using this industry has grown significantly with the advancement and modernization of technology. Social media has been an influential and primary source of public communication since the introduction of the Internet.” As a result, it contributes to people’s survival by conveying necessary information swiftly.”

“It has made it simple and efficient to connect individuals. It has allowed them to connect immediately, no matter where they are, without wasting time, energy, or money. This evolution is a manifestation of civilization. It also has significant economic growth potential. This excellent chance should be utilized to promote peace, development, and nation-building.”

“Social media contributes significantly to global development, but if it is not managed properly and intelligently, it may result in a serious social and economic disaster.”

“Our tranquility will be disturbed if we cannot use it in a civilized manner. It incites hostility. It shatters the people’s togetherness. It drives people to collide with one other by mounting suspicions and disagreements, resulting in loss of life and damage of wealth and property.”

“We live in a time when it is being used irresponsibly to disseminate false, malicious, and unsubstantiated chitchats, causing conflict, violence and divisions among people.”

“On behalf of the state government and myself, I would like to entrust the academics, the youth, sector users, and media outlets in our region to do your part in using contemporary media for good, which has a substantial contribution to the country’s peace and development.”
