Ethiopia\u2019s request to join BRICS bloc timely, appropriate: Expert<\/p>\n
Bahir Dar, July 14, 2023 (AMECO) – Ethiopia\u2019s decision and formal request to join the bloc of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) is appropriate and timely decision.
\nIt is to be recalled that Ethiopia has submitted a formal request to join BRICS,which is significant step towards enhancing the nation\u2019s diplomacy.<\/p>\n
Approached by Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA), Dire Dawa University Researcher and Lecturer of Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) Surafel Getahun said that much is expected of Ethiopia in strengthening south-south cooperation and Ethiopia\u2019s request to join the bloc is among the core things that go along enhancing diplomacy.<\/p>\n
He stated that BRICS consists of countries that have huge economy and established to build strong financial bloc to cope up with the impacts of western led IMF and WB. The bloc will be among influential regional blocs and Ethiopia\u2019s request to join this BRICS is timely and appropriate so as to go alongside the current global dynamism, he said.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cThe establishment of this regional bloc among the world\u2019s fastest-growing nations will play significant impact in balancing power. The government of Ethiopia\u2019s requested to join BRICS would have significant impact as the number of population of the country is high coupled with huge resource and promising growth.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ethiopia had a good diplomatic relations with the member countries and it is a pan-Africanism pioneer. Since the establishment of BRICS, the foundation for cooperation has been consolidated and the areas of cooperation have been expanded, it was indicated.<\/p>\n
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Spokesperson Ambassador Meles Alem recently disclosed that the request was made having the vision to make a positive contribution to the bloc. Ethiopia, which was among the founding members of the UN and AU, has requested to join the grouping of the world\u2019s emerging economies.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cThe Ethiopian government expects positive response for its request. The current global order is changing rapidly and Ethiopia is working to be member of different international organizations so that it catches the dynamics in global politics and ensures its national interest.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ethiopia\u2019s request to join the BRICS is timely and lucrative as it would have a paramount importance in galvanizing its foreign relations and boost its status in the global politics. Besides, Ethiopia has given prime attention to public diplomacy, which is one core in the current foreign relations strategies along with political and economic diplomacy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
