Addis Ababa, 2 November 2026.\u2014Ethiopia’s long-term development vision, guided by the “Medemer” (synergy) strategy, places human capital development and women’s equality at its center, House of Peoples’ Representatives Speaker Ahmed Shide has said.
\nMr. Ahmed made the remarks in a speech at a dialogue of Afro-Asian parliamentarians held in Addis Ababa.<\/p>\n
The forum focuses on parliamentarians’ roles in population and development, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and gender equality policy.<\/p>\n
The Speaker said that, through the long-term “Medemer” strategy extending to 2050, Ethiopia is working with firm commitment toward a common national goal by integrating its full national capacity, people, institutions and resources.<\/p>\n
He added that Ethiopia is effectively implementing development solutions rooted in homegrown ideas, along with modern governance guided by ideas, strategy and accountability.<\/p>\n
He elaborated that the Medemer government is focusing on turning this large-scale long-term vision into tangible results by creating new solutions, accelerating the delivery of services and development, scaling up and replicating successful work, and ensuring quality in all areas of development.<\/p>\n
He noted that these principles are being applied in the same manner in education, health, infrastructure development and other social and economic sectors.<\/p>\n
Alongside this, the Speaker said Ethiopia is building its national capacity on the principle of “self-reliance.” He said this is being carried out by building strong political, economic and institutional capacities able to withstand external pressures, and by turning challenges into strategic opportunities that benefit the country’s growth.<\/p>\n
Noting that the true foundation of any country’s growth and strength is not limited to construction projects and institutions, the Speaker stressed that the main asset is the people’s health, education, skills and human dignity.<\/p>\n
Accordingly, he said, population and development, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and gender equality are not secondary issues but are central to national capacity and the long-term strategy, according to information obtained from the House.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
