Addis Ababa (AMECO)<\/b>\u00a0\u2014 Ethiopia has launched a nationwide tree-planting drive aiming to put 800 million seedlings into the ground in a single day under the banner “Plant Hope.”<\/p>\n

Speaking at a press briefing in Addis Ababa, Dr Adefris Worku, technical committee coordinator for the national Green Legacy Initiative, framed today’s record effort as a direct response to an urgent environmental crisis: reversing severe land degradation that currently afflicts more than half of Ethiopia\u2019s total land area.<\/p>\n

According to Dr Adefris, previous phases of the initiative are already demonstrating tangible ecological returns, including soil regeneration, the revival of dried riverbeds, and expanding forest cover as citizens turn out en masse.<\/p>\n
