The airline\u2019s freight division moved 897,000 tonnes of cargo \u2014 a 16% rise on the previous year \u2014 underscoring its growing status as an international air logistics hub.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"6\">However, operational performance faced notable external headwinds in the final quarter. &#8220;Financial performance was affected by flight cancellations caused by conflicts in the Gulf region, the suspension of services to some destinations due to US travel restrictions, and flight cancellations to the Democratic Republic of the Congo,&#8221; Mesfin said, noting that earlier momentum was critical in cushioning the financial impact.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7\">To support its commercial expansion, the airline added nine commercial aircraft to its fleet and acquired eight trainer aircraft for its aviation academy. It launched services to four new international routes during the year, expanding its destination network to 150 international and 25 domestic locations.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\">The results come as the airline pushes ahead with significant capital expenditure projects. In addition to expanding passenger lounges, cargo terminals, and data infrastructure at its primary hub, Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, construction of a new multi-billion-dollar international airport in Bishoftu remains on track for completion by January 2027.
