The 49th African Union Executive Council convenes amid mounting environmental, demographic, and urban pressures on the continent\u2019s water infrastructure.<\/b><\/p>\n

Addis Ababa, ( AMECO)<\/b>\u00a0\u2014 Senior foreign diplomats from across Africa have converged on the Ethiopian capital ahead of the 49th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council, where the continent’s deepening water access and sanitation crisis will head the political agenda.<\/p>\n

Delegations landed at Bole International Airport on Sunday, led by Burundi\u2019s Foreign Minister and Executive Council Chairperson, \u00c9douard Bizimana. He was received by Ethiopia\u2019s Chief of State Protocol, Melaku Bedada, alongside incoming ministerial leadership from West, Central, and Southern Africa.<\/p>\n

The two-day summit, convening from July 28 to 29 under the theme \u201cAssuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063,\u201d<\/i> comes at a pivotal moment for regional infrastructure strategy.<\/p>\n

Severe environmental and economic headwinds<\/h3>\n

African policymakers face escalating pressure as rapid urban growth, expanding populations, and acute climate shocks strain basic utilities beyond capacity.<\/p>\n

For hundreds of millions across the continent, access to clean water and adequate sanitation remains elusive \u2014 a structural deficit creating severe widespread consequences:<\/p>\n
