Addis Ababa,(AMECO)<\/b>\u2014 The Addis Ababa City Administration Environmental Protection Authority has launched a three-month targeted campaign against plastic pollution, hazardous waste, and noise pollution, building on recent data showing improved civic waste-disposal habits across the capital.<\/p>\n

The initiative, rolled out under the theme “A Clean Ethiopia for Generations,”<\/i> marks the third phase of the nationwide sanitation drive. Speaking at the launch, Deputy Mayor Jantirar Abay commended the capital’s shifting civic culture, noting that a new generation of residents is actively taking responsibility for urban cleanliness.<\/p>\n

“Ethiopia\u2019s long-term development can only be secured when environmental health is guaranteed,” Abay said. “We make environmental protection a reality by maintaining what we build. Every development project must have environmental stewardship at its foundation.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Measuring Impact & Civic Reach<\/h3>\n

According to Dr. Eshetu Lema, Head of the city’s Environmental Protection Authority, outreach programs over the past six months have educated more than 5 million residents on sanitation and noise pollution. This public awareness has led to measurable improvements in how households dispose of solid waste compared to previous years.<\/p>\n

In tandem with public education, city officials have taken regulatory action against commercial institutions exceeding legal noise thresholds, resulting in a noticeable reduction in urban sound pollution.<\/p>\n

The city’s ongoing efforts contributed to Addis Ababa securing 16th place among global environmental protection rankings\u2014a milestone city leadership insists must be sustained through continuous monitoring.<\/p>\n

Infrastructure & Upcoming Timeline<\/h3>\n

To support its sanitation campaign, the city administration has built nearly 43 municipal wastewater treatment facilities from scratch, establishing critical infrastructure to manage urban growth.<\/p>\n

The newly announced quarterly action plan will target specific environmental hazards on a month-by-month basis:<\/p>\n
