{"id":1643,"date":"2026-07-24T21:24:27","date_gmt":"2026-07-24T21:24:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ameco.et\/english\/?p=1643"},"modified":"2026-07-24T21:24:27","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T21:24:27","slug":"amhara-region-distributes-over-5-5-million-quintals-of-fertilizer-to-farmers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ameco.et\/english\/amhara-region-distributes-over-5-5-million-quintals-of-fertilizer-to-farmers\/","title":{"rendered":"Amhara Region Distributes Over 5.5 Million Quintals of Fertilizer to Farmers"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 data-path-to-node=\"3\"><b data-path-to-node=\"3\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Amhara Region Distributes Over 5.5 Million Quintals of Fertilizer to Farmers<\/b><\/h1>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\"><b data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Bahir Dar, (AMECO)<\/b>\u00a0\u2014 More than 5.5 million quintals of chemical fertilizer have been distributed to farmers across the Amhara Region for the 2018\/19 (2026\/27) main harvest season (<i data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"171\">Meher<\/i>), regional agricultural authorities confirmed.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5\">The ongoing distribution is part of a broader initiative by the Amhara Regional Agriculture Bureau to supply 8.6 million quintals of fertilizer, aimed at maximizing crop productivity and safeguarding regional food security.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"6\"><b data-path-to-node=\"6\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Regional Production Targets and Distribution<\/b><\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7\">Dereje Mandefro, Head of the Amhara Regional Agriculture Bureau, reported that 5.58 million hectares of farmland will be cultivated with various crops during the current <i data-path-to-node=\"7\" data-index-in-node=\"170\">Meher<\/i> season, targeting a total harvest of 205.2 million quintals.<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"8\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"8,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Distribution Progress:<\/b> Out of the total planned allocation, 5,580,272 quintals of fertilizer have already been distributed to farming households across the region.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"8,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Resolving Supply Delays:<\/b> Initial delivery bottlenecks in specific zones\u2014most notably South Gondar and North Gondar\u2014have been overcome, securing sufficient input supplies for early-sowing crops.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8,2,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"8,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Inter-Agency Oversight:<\/b> Monitoring mechanisms spanning from the federal Ministry of Agriculture down to local administrative units have been deployed to maintain timely and equitable distribution.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"9\"><b data-path-to-node=\"9\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Cracking Down on Illicit Fertilizer Trade<\/b><\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\">To protect supply chain integrity, Dereje highlighted that input transportation is being conducted in tight coordination with regional security forces. A dedicated joint task force is actively working to prevent the illegal diversion and black-market trading of subsidized agricultural inputs.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11\">&#8220;The government provides substantial subsidies to support our farmers, making community cooperation vital to holding illicit traders accountable,&#8221; Dereje said.
