{"id":1474,"date":"2024-04-03T15:32:07","date_gmt":"2024-04-03T15:32:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ameco.et\/english\/?p=1474"},"modified":"2024-04-03T15:32:07","modified_gmt":"2024-04-03T15:32:07","slug":"a-model-for-african","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ameco.et\/english\/a-model-for-african\/","title":{"rendered":"A Model for African"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"justify\"><span dir=\"LTR\">A Model for African<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span dir=\"LTR\">Bahir Dar, April 03 &#8211; (AMECO)- The approach used to build the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is a big lesson that serves as a model for African nations grappling with poverty, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span dir=\"LTR\">The deputy premier made the above remark at the commemoration of the 13th Anniversary of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam held in Addis Ababa today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span dir=\"LTR\">He pointed out that despite the enormous challenges Ethiopia faced, it was able to safeguard its rights to conceive, design, finance, and construct <\/span><span dir=\"LTR\">the dam.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span dir=\"LTR\">&#8220;This approach serves as a pioneering and exemplary model for nations across our continent grappling with poverty,&#8221; Temesgen stressed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span dir=\"LTR\">The anniversary celebrated under the theme: \u201cTogether We Can\u201d \u00a0featured a series of events, including panel discussions and a photo exhibition. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span dir=\"LTR\">Deputy PM Temesgen Tiruneh on the occasion lauded the unified efforts of the government and the public in overcoming significant challenges over the past thirteen years. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span dir=\"LTR\">The construction of \u00a0GERD has now reached an impressive 95.8 percent <\/span><span dir=\"LTR\">milestone, and Ethiopia resolutely upheld the principle of African Solutions to African Problems on the global stage, he recalled.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span dir=\"LTR\">And &#8220;in doing so, we safeguarded our right to conceive, design, finance, and construct for Ethiopia&#8217;s prosperity. This approach serves as a pioneering and exemplary model for nations across our continent grappling with poverty,&#8221; Temesgen underlined. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span dir=\"LTR\">Water and Energy Minister Habtamu Itefa on his part highlighted Ethiopia&#8217;s longstanding experience in dam construction for electricity generation and irrigation purposes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span dir=\"LTR\">He cited projects like Melkawakena, <\/span><span dir=\"LTR\">Koqa, Fincha, Gibe I-III, Tekeze, and Tis Abay, among others. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span dir=\"LTR\">However, the minister revealed that \u201cthe combined output of these dams falls short of 4,000 megawatts, representing less than 8 percent of Ethiopia&#8217;s hydroelectric potential.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span dir=\"LTR\">According to him, the success of GERD serves as a powerful testament to the Ethiopian spirit of &#8220;it is possible.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span dir=\"LTR\">Habtamu noted that this spirit, including the project execution experience, knowledge and technology transfer are imperative for developing other projects in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span dir=\"LTR\">Sorce: ENA<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Model for African Bahir Dar, April 03 &#8211; (AMECO)- The approach used to build the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is a big lesson that serves as a model for African nations grappling with poverty, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh said.
