The second phase of the Green legacy campaign has been launched in Bahir Dar, Amhara region.

The second phase of the Green legacy campaign has been launched in Bahir Dar, Amhara region with an intention to plant 1.6 Billion saplings.
According to the Head of Amhara Region Agriculture Bureau, Hailemariam Kefyalew (Dr.) Six Billion saplings have been planted in Amhara region during the past years. And 25 percent of the seedlings were edible fruit saplings.
He mentioned that more than 700,000 Hectares of land has been covered since the beginning of the Green legacy campaigns. This has brought  an increase in the forest coverage of the land. The information indicated that the forest coverage of the land in the region has been reach 16 percent which at the beginning of the campaign was at 14 percent.
The green footprint activities that have been conducted in in different times have significantly reduced the incidence of land and the soil erosion. The plantation of saplings also helped to create job opportunities for youths.

The Amhara Regional Agriculture Bureau has announced that 6 billion saplings have been planted in the Amhara region over the years.

Out of 1.7 billion saplings which have been prepared for the second phase of plantation, 1.6 billion saplings will be planted.

The Social Cluster Coordinator of the Amhara region, Ato Seyoum Mekonnen also announced that the green legacy program will continue throughout the region.  Ato Seyoum called upon everyone to take part in the plantation of saplings which is a fight to ensure food security and prevent climate change.
