Addis Ababa ( AMECO) – Accelerating technology-driven development and digital innovation is vital to meeting local economic needs and improving public services, a senior Amhara region official has urged at a regional performance review in Debre Berhan.
Speaking at a meeting assessing the 2018 fiscal year performance and launching the 2019 plan for the North Shewa zone, Dr Ahmedin Muhammed, urban development co-ordinator with the rank of deputy head of Amhara regional government, stated that integrating modern technology into local governance and agriculture could no longer be delayed.
Highlighting practical progress, Dr Ahmedin pointed to target initiatives—including the national Coders project, digital ID rollouts, and summer irrigated wheat farming—as evidence that tech-focused solutions are delivering measurable results on the ground.
The review noted that urban corridor development projects have upgraded town infrastructure across the zone, while contributions from individual districts (woredas) boosted overall regional performance. In the industrial sector, the “Ethiopia Tamrt” (Ethiopia Produces) campaign, coupled with inter-institutional co-ordination, significantly increased manufacturing capacity.
Calling on local leaders to build on these results, Dr Ahmedin urged administration officials to combine untapped regional potential with modern innovation to overcome development hurdles and achieve sustainable economic growth in the coming fiscal year.
