
Simien Mountains National Park
The Simien Mountains National Park was the first to be designated as a national park in Ethiopia. The park is located 120 kilometers northeast of Gondar city, Amhara region. It also encompasses Ras Dejen Mountain, the highest in Ethiopia.
The Simien Mountains National Park is home to rare animals such as Walia, red fox, Gelada baboon , Mnelik deer, etc., which are only found in Ethiopia. The park is home to more than 200 species of birds, five of which are found only in Ethiopia.
On the other hand, there are more than 1,200 different species of plants in the park. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) registered it as a world heritage site in 1978.
