In a significant announcement, chief of the Amhara regional state, Arega Kebede, highlighted the ongoing preservation efforts surrounding the historic Fasil Palace. This UNESCO World Heritage site stands as a testament to the architectural brilliance and visionary leadership of the time.
The Fasil Castle is not only an architectural marvel but also a symbol of the enduring legacy of past leaders, connecting today’s generations with their history. During a recent address, chief of the Amhara Regional State, Arega Kebede commended the heritage maintenance experts for their dedication to preserving the palace’s historical integrity.
He noted that the restoration efforts, initiated under Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, are progressing well and will soon be completed. The state government is committed to providing necessary support to accommodate tourists eager to experience this iconic landmark.
Arega Kebede emphasized the government’s broader goal of preserving historical sites and ensuring they are passed down to future generations, while also highlighting the ongoing infrastructure developments in Gondar city, including the Azezo Road and Corridor project.
He stated, “Peace is the foundation for development and good governance,” urging the community to play an active role in maintaining peace. Projects in peaceful areas continue to advance, while those in regions facing security challenges have been temporarily halted.
Debrie Yehuala, deputy mayor of Gondar City Administration assured that both federal and regional leaders are closely monitoring these development initiatives. He urged residents to actively participate in ensuring these projects are completed on time, which are vital for addressing the community’s needs for development and good governance.
With leaders from the Prosperity Party and city administration present, the visit underscored the collaborative effort to drive these projects forward for the benefit of the community.
As these efforts continue, the hope is that the restoration of the Fasil Palace and ongoing development in Gondar will not only enhance tourism but also strengthen the region’s cultural heritage.
