Ministers from the nations of the Nile Basin affirmed their support for and adherence to the ideal of equitable and reasonable water use.
Bahir Dar, June 23, 2023 (AMECO) – The “2nd Afri-Run High-Level Forum on Equitable and Reasonable Utilization of Trans boundary Watercourses in Africa” is now taking place in Addis Abeba under the topic “African Resources for African Prosperity in the New Age.”
Addressing the forum, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Demeke Mekonon stated that the goal of the conference is to address both natural and anthropogenic issues affecting rivers. He pointed out that The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is an exemplary initiative that champions equitable and reasonable use of water.
The ministers that took part emphasized that they support the fair and reasonable use of water and that their attitude is not only for Ethiopia but also for themselves.
Deng Melk, South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Affairs, stated, “South Sudan stands by the principle of rational water use.” He suggested that the Nile basin countries use the Nile to spur economic progress and solve difficulties. “My country supports Ethiopia’s true cause,” he stated.
John Mulambe, deputy minister of foreign affairs for Uganda, said, “ it is critical to realize that when we talk about the development of rational and equitable water management, we mean that it would assist us in overcoming local food shortages and famine.” All people, he claimed, support Ethiopia’s Green legacy program, which helps to increase water capacity.
“My country upholds the principle of fair use of water.” said Deputy Minister John Mulambe.
