Malnutrition is still a national agenda seeking attention – Health Minister, Liya Tadesse (Dr.)

Bahir Dar, July 4, 2023 (AMECO) Ethiopian National Food and Nutrition Strategy and commitment in accordance with Seqota Declaration expansion forum has been held.

Seqota Declaration is a high level fifteen-year commitment that the government of Ethiopia made to end stunting in children under two years by 2030. It has a 15-year roadmap divided into three phases: Innovation, Expansion and Scale-Up phases.

Minister of Health, Dr. Liya Tadesse, during the forum stated that the issue of malnutrition is still demanding big attentions. She added that despite promising results in the expansion of food and nutrition implementation in the past years, it is still a national agenda that needs a lot of attention. Especially pregnant women, lactating mothers, teenagers and children are exposed to severe food and nutrition problems.

The Minister also called on federal and state leaders, experts and partner organizations to work with great commitment for the next fiscal year.

The Seqota Declaration is working with an attempt to save 7,852,216 children from stunting.
