IGAD urged Sudanese forces for an unconditional ceasefire.
Bahir Dar, July 10, 2023 (AMECO) The Heads of State and Government of the IGAD Quartet Group of Countries met in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to discuss in depth the implementation of the IGAD Roadmap for peace in the Republic of Sudan.
According to IGAD’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, the Summit urged for an immediate and unconditional cessation of hostilities by the warring parties in Sudan and called the warring parties for permanent ceasefire to open humanitarian corridors for aid assistance.
The summit also condemned the ongoing human rights violations and committed to establishing an accountability mechanism.
Dr. Workneh in his tweets indicates that IGAD will work on coordinating diplomatic efforts to initiate an all-inclusive Sudanese owned and Sudanese led dialogue to address root causes of the conflict for a durable peace in Sudan.
